The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew previously imposed on 10 local government areas following a recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area. The announcement was made on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, who confirmed that residents could now resume their normal activities.
Background of the Curfew
The state government had on Tuesday, June 23, announced a 16-hour curfew across the affected local government areas bordering the old Oyo National Park. This measure was part of efforts to strengthen security and support ongoing rescue operations after the kidnapping incident.
A memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, through the office of the SSG and signed by Permanent Secretary Musibau Babatunde, stated that the curfew took effect from Wednesday, running daily from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. The restriction, initially scheduled to last for two days, affected Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba local government areas.

Commissioner Oyelade thanked residents of the affected communities for their cooperation and understanding during the period of the restriction. He added that the state government remains vigilant and is closely monitoring the security situation across the affected areas.
The commissioner also assured residents that security agencies and the state government would continue efforts to bring an end to kidnapping incidents across Oyo State and ensure the safety of lives and property. According to Oyelade, "We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our citizens during this period. The government is committed to ensuring lasting peace and security in all parts of the state."
