Thunderstorm kills six children, injures two in Adamawa

A devastating thunderstorm in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of six children and left two others injured. The incident occurred in the Dadiri community, located in the Tirgili district of Ganye Local Government Area, on Sunday afternoon, July 19, 2026.

Storm strikes without warning

According to reports, the severe thunderstorm hit the area suddenly, catching eight children who were in the vicinity. Six of the children died instantly at the scene, while the two surviving children sustained varying degrees of injuries. They are currently receiving medical treatment at a local health facility.

Community in mourning

The tragic event has plunged the entire Dadiri and Tirgili communities, as well as the wider Ganye Local Government Area, into deep mourning. Local authorities have not yet released the names or ages of the victims. The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency has been notified and is expected to provide further assistance to the affected families.
