A devastating road accident in Plateau State has resulted in the deaths of ten individuals, with several others sustaining injuries. The tragic event unfolded in the early hours of the morning along the busy Jos-Bauchi road.
Details of the Tragic Collision
The fatal crash occurred at precisely 12:12 am on December 22, 2025, shortly after a military checkpoint within the Jos North Local Government Area. The collision involved a total of four vehicles: two trailers and two Ford Galaxy minibuses.
Peter Y. Longsan, the Superintendent and Route Commander who serves as the Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, provided official confirmation of the incident. He detailed that the emergency response was a coordinated effort involving FRSC personnel, the police, officers from the relevant ministry, and local villagers who rushed to assist.
Casualty Figures and Emergency Response
According to the FRSC's report, nineteen people were involved in the crash. The victims comprised seventeen men and two women. Tragically, ten adult males lost their lives at the scene.
The injured survivors were promptly transported to multiple medical facilities for urgent care. These included the General Hospital in Miyabarkate, the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), and the Plateau State Specialist Hospital.
Officials stated that the bodies of eight victims were deposited at the morgues of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital. The remaining two corpses were claimed by officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for burial arrangements.
Cause of Accident and Safety Warning
While investigations into the precise circumstances are ongoing, the FRSC's preliminary findings point to two primary factors. Excessive speed and reckless driving have been identified as major contributors to the catastrophic event.
In light of this tragedy, the FRSC Sector Commander issued a stern warning to all road users. He strongly advised commuters to avoid night journeys, refrain from speeding and dangerous driving maneuvers, and always prioritize their personal safety above all else.
Related Lagos Accident Claims Two Lives
In a separate but equally distressing incident, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed another fatal crash in the Iyana Meiran area of Lagos. This accident involved a Dangote Silo Mixer Truck that suffered a sudden brake failure while reportedly traveling at high speed.
The out-of-control truck collided with a commercial minibus and four tricycles, leaving the vehicles severely mangled. The impact resulted in two confirmed fatalities and three critically injured persons.
LASTMA personnel, with help from bystanders, rescued the injured and rushed them to Mobonke Hospital on Meiran Road. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force. The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families and reiterated that mechanical negligence and speeding are persistent, avoidable causes of fatal accidents on Nigerian roads.
