39 Motorists Nabbed for Over-Speeding in Ogun by FRSC

Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State have taken 39 motorists into custody for exceeding speed limits. This crackdown is part of a special patrol designed to minimize accidents during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Special Patrol Targets Speed Violations

The State Corps Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, personally led the enforcement operation along the busy Sagamu-Abeokuta road on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 16th and 17th, 2025. He stated that the command launched this initiative to achieve a 10% reduction in road traffic fatalities and injuries throughout the yuletide period.

In a statement issued to journalists in Abeokuta on Thursday, Commander Fasakin revealed that the corps utilized a Laser Radar Gun to identify vehicles moving at dangerous speeds. The offenders were subsequently booked for mandatory road safety education.

Enforcement and Corrective Measures

Commercial drivers among those caught were given direct instructions to install speed-limiting devices in their vehicles. The breakdown of arrests shows that 16 drivers were apprehended on Tuesday, while 23 more were nabbed on Wednesday.

Fasakin emphasized that this action followed a directive from the FRSC National Headquarters for field commands to develop local strategies to curb Road Traffic Crashes before, during, and after the festive season. He strongly advised all motorists to drive with caution, avoid over-speeding and overloading their vehicles to ensure safer roads for everyone.
