Senate President's Outrider Dies in Crash Two Months Before Retirement
Akpabio's Outrider Dies in Lagos-Ibadan Road Crash

Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, claiming the life of a dedicated security aide to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. The fatal incident occurred just two months before the officer was scheduled to retire from service.

A Fatal Journey on a Busy Highway

Mr Hassan Husseini, the outrider attached to Senator Godswill Akpabio, lost his life in a devastating road crash on Sunday, December 21, 2025. Reports indicate that Husseini was travelling from Lagos to Ibadan for the specific duty of receiving the Senate President when the accident happened.

The collision involved a vehicle and Husseini's motorcycle. He was reportedly crushed to death at the scene. The late officer, who hailed from Kogi State, was due to retire from service around February 2026, making the incident particularly heartbreaking for his family and colleagues.

Senate Mourns and Moves Motion

The Senate chamber in Abuja was sombre on Tuesday as the news was formally presented. Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West, moved a motion on the floor to officially announce the passing. Karimi informed his colleagues that "a careless driver crushed him" and noted that Husseini "was married with four children."

Before the formal motion, Senate President Akpabio had personally informed the chamber of the tragic loss. He disclosed that the burial rites for Hassan Husseini had already been conducted on Tuesday morning, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Support for the Bereaved Family

In a move to support the grieving family, Senator Godswill Akpabio made significant recommendations. He proposed that two of the deceased's children be offered employment in government parastatals. Demonstrating further commitment, Akpabio added that if no vacancies exist in the public sector, the children could be engaged in any of his private business concerns.

The late Hassan Husseini is survived by his widow and his four children. The incident has cast a pall over the Senate and highlighted once again the perennial dangers on Nigerian roads, particularly the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
