A tragic multi-vehicle accident involving a Dangote cement mixer truck has resulted in two fatalities and left three individuals with critical injuries in the Meiran area of Lagos State. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, 17 December 2025.
Details of the Meiran Road Collision
The crash happened on Meiran Road, close to the Primary Health Centre (PHC). According to an official statement from LASTMA's Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the Dangote Silo Mixer Truck was traveling at an excessively high speed when it suffered a sudden and catastrophic brake failure.
This mechanical failure caused the large vehicle to veer out of control. It collided with a commercial mini-bus with plate number EPP 541 YF and four tricycles registered as KTU 360 QN, LND 444 QL, LSR 444 QN, and EKY 122 QP. The force of the impact was severe, leaving the involved vehicles mangled and trapping passengers within the wreckage.
Rescue Operation and Aftermath
LASTMA officials, with immediate assistance from passersby, rushed to the scene to conduct rescue operations. They managed to extricate the three critically injured victims from the debris. These victims were swiftly transported to Mobonke Hospital located on Meiran Road for urgent medical attention.
Tragically, two persons were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were subsequently handed over to officers from the Meiran Police Division, who were deployed to manage the situation and control traffic. The driver of the Dangote mixer truck reportedly fled the scene immediately following the collision and remains at large.
LASTMA's Stern Warning on Road Safety
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound sympathy for the families of the deceased. He used the opportunity to reiterate a critical warning to all motorists, particularly those operating heavy-duty vehicles.
Bakare-Oki emphasized that mechanical negligence and excessive speeding are persistent and entirely avoidable causes of fatal road crashes. LASTMA's statement urged all drivers to ensure their vehicles, especially brakes and other vital components, undergo thorough inspection and are certified roadworthy before any journey.
The authority also stressed the non-negotiable importance of observing government-regulated speed limits to prevent further tragedies on Lagos roads.
