FRSC Deploys Extra Officers, Tow Trucks to Tackle Abuja-Lokoja Road Gridlock
FRSC Boosts Presence on Abuja-Lokoja Road to Ease Traffic

In a decisive move to address severe traffic congestion, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified its operations on the critical Abuja-Lokoja Road. The Corps has ordered the immediate deployment of additional officers and more tow trucks to the route to restore order and ensure the free flow of vehicles.

Directive from the Corps Marshal

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed issued the directive on Sunday, 21 December 2025. The order was communicated through a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, in Abuja. Mohammed stated that this action is a key part of the FRSC's ongoing strategy to enhance traffic management and, most importantly, guarantee the safety of all road users.

He emphasized that this intervention is particularly crucial during the current period, which is witnessing a significant increase in vehicular movement across the country. The goal is to proactively manage the challenges that come with the seasonal travel surge.

Causes of the Persistent Gridlock

The corps marshal pinpointed the primary reasons behind the constant traffic build-up on this major corridor. He cited a combination of a surge in traffic volume and the existence of multiple construction points along the highway as major contributing factors.

However, Mohammed was blunt about the role of driver behaviour in exacerbating the situation. He highlighted that the actions of indisciplined and impatient motorists have made things worse. Specifically, he mentioned the problems of lane indiscipline and the dangerous practice of driving against traffic, especially around construction zones where diversions have been established to aid movement.

Objectives of the Enhanced Deployment

The strategic deployment of extra personnel and towing equipment has clear, actionable goals. According to the FRSC leadership, the move is aimed at:

  • Enhancing traffic control at critical points along the route.
  • Enforcing discipline among motorists to curb violations.
  • Ensuring that broken-down vehicles and other obstructions are cleared from the road swiftly to restore normal traffic flow.

Mohammed made a direct appeal to motorists using the Abuja-Lokoja Road during this season. He urged them to cooperate fully with FRSC personnel and other traffic managers on duty. He stressed that compliance with traffic rules and lawful instructions from officials would significantly reduce travel delays and help prevent accidents.

The Corps Marshal reassured the public of the FRSC's commitment to continuous monitoring of the traffic situation on the route. He promised sustained interventions to ensure smoother traffic flow and safer journeys for everyone travelling between Abuja and Lokoja.
