The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Rivers State has initiated a major safety campaign for the Christmas and New Year period. Dubbed "Operation Zero Special Patrol," the extensive exercise aims to guarantee secure and smooth travel for all road users throughout the festivities.
Massive Deployment for Festive Season Security
According to Chief Route Commander Doris Ebor, the Sector Public Education Officer, the operation commenced on Monday, December 15, 2025, and is scheduled to run until January 15, 2026. The command is mobilising significant resources, including over 1,019 regular and special personnel, 15 patrol vehicles, one heavy-duty tow truck, and 400 Special Marshals, across the state.
A dedicated Situation Room has been activated at the State Headquarters. This centre will monitor activities in real-time, collect critical data, and disseminate information swiftly to field operatives and partners to enable rapid response and coordination.
Targeted Offences and Multi-Agency Collaboration
Commander Ebor outlined specific traffic violations that will be under strict scrutiny during this period. The focus will be on offences that commonly lead to accidents, such as:
- Distracted and dangerous driving
- Overspeeding and overloading
- Road obstructions
- Violations of seatbelt and child restraint laws
- Operation of mechanically unfit vehicles
- Lack of passenger manifest (for commercial vehicles)
To ensure effectiveness, the FRSC is collaborating with a broad spectrum of security and emergency agencies. Unit commanders have been directed to work with:
- The military and the Nigeria Police Force
- The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Immigration Service
- The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
- The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing
- National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and ambulance services
- Federal Road Maintenance Agency and the Federal Fire Service
FRSC Dismisses Viral Report on Police Vehicle Impoundment
In a separate development, the Adamawa State Command of the FRSC has strongly refuted a social media report claiming its officers seized a Police Hilux van. The Command's Public Relations Officer, Abdulrahman H. Tukur, labelled the report as "false, baseless, and entirely misleading" in a statement released on Thursday.
The Command clarified that no Police vehicle was ever seized, impounded, or detained by its operatives. It emphasised the cordial and professional relationship with the Nigeria Police Force in Adamawa, stating that both agencies work in synergy for public safety. The FRSC urged the public to disregard the misinformation, which it views as an attempt to disrupt inter-agency harmony.
The FRSC Rivers Command concludes by appealing to all motorists and pedestrians to exercise utmost caution and obey all traffic regulations, reaffirming that the safety of every road user remains its paramount concern during this Yuletide season and beyond.
