Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of Male Hawker in Lagos's Okokomaiko Area
A devastating road accident in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State has resulted in the death of a male roadside hawker, sparking renewed concerns over road safety and the dangers of roadside trading in the bustling metropolis. The fatal crash involved a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY, which struck the victim, an adult male, leading to his immediate demise at the scene due to the severe impact.
Swift Response from Traffic Authorities
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the incident occurred on Sunday, prompting a rapid response from its officials. In a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, the victim died instantly. LASTMA personnel quickly secured the accident scene and evacuated the deceased's remains from the carriageway to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.
Police officers from the Ketu Division subsequently transported the body to the Badagry Mortuary for further necessary procedures, while authorities initiated preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Separate Accident Injures Seven Passengers
In a related development, LASTMA confirmed that seven passengers sustained injuries in a separate accident at the Ogudu inward toll gate in Lagos. This incident involved a Mazda commercial bus with registration number MUS 231 YA and a Lexus Jeep with registration number FKJ 23 HL. Emergency responders, including officials from the Lagos State Ambulance Service and operatives of the Ogudu Police Division, intervened promptly, evacuating the injured victims to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
All vehicles involved in both incidents have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Reacting to the incidents, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and maintain safe speeds, particularly during late-night hours when visibility and alertness may be reduced.
