One Killed, Five Injured in Separate Ogun Auto Crashes
One Dead, Five Injured in Ogun Road Accidents

Multiple Accidents Rock Ogun Roads, Claiming One Life

A series of separate road accidents occurred in Ogun State over the weekend, resulting in one confirmed death and at least five people sustaining various injuries. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has provided detailed accounts of the incidents, which took place on different days and locations within the state.

First Crash: Sango-Ijoko Road Collision

The first accident happened on Saturday in front of the Sango Central Mosque along the busy Sango-Ijoko Road. According to the TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the crash involved five vehicles: an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna with registration number LSD 10189 DLA, a blue Toyota Highlander (MUS 240 HP), two yellow TVS tricycles (LAR 723 QP and GED 893 VC), and a red Boxer motorcycle whose registration number remains unknown.

Akinbiyi confirmed that a total of ten people were involved in this incident: eight male adults and two female adults. Fortunately, nobody died from this particular crash. However, two female passengers sustained injuries.

The TRACE investigation revealed that the driver of the Toyota Sienna caused the accident by driving against traffic. This wrongful move led to a head-on collision with the Boxer motorcycle. In a panicked attempt to flee the scene, the Sienna driver subsequently hit the other vehicles on the road.

Following the incident, the affected vehicles were towed away, and the traffic flow, which had been severely disrupted, was restored to normalcy.

Second Crash: Fatal Incident on Sagamu/Ikorodu Expressway

In a separate and more tragic event that occurred on Friday, one person lost their life on the Sagamu/Ikorodu Expressway. This crash involved a white-and-black Mack container truck with registration number T17674LA and a white Volkswagen bus bearing plate number FST 513 YH.

TRACE's Babatunde Akinbiyi also confirmed this incident, stating that the crash led to the death of one person, while three others sustained varying degrees of injury.

The preliminary report indicated that the driver of the Volkswagen bus was responsible for the collision due to incorrect overtaking. This dangerous maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with the container truck, which was loaded with animal feed. The impact led to the tragic death of one occupant from the bus.

The vehicles involved in this fatal crash were also towed from the scene. Arrangements were made through the truck's manager to transload the containers onto another vehicle.

A Pattern of Road Accidents

These recent accidents add to a concerning pattern of road safety issues in Ogun State. Just last week, a multiple auto crash at Omoyele Junction along the same Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway left no fewer than 15 persons with injuries. That accident involved an unregistered Mack truck, a Toyota Highlander (AKD 29 JZ), a Suzuki minibus (Korope), and a motorcycle.

TRACE attributed that previous incident to excessive speeding by the truck driver, who reportedly lost control after the vehicle's brakes failed, causing a chain reaction collision.

The recurring nature of these accidents on major expressways in Ogun State highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and driver compliance with traffic regulations.
