A devastating road accident on the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State has resulted in the deaths of a toddler and two other individuals, with seven more sustaining injuries. The crash occurred on April 18, 2026, at approximately 5:40 p.m. along the Onipepeye axis, involving a collision between a Sino truck and an Opel passenger car.

According to Afolabi Odunsi, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun Command, a total of ten persons were involved in the incident. He confirmed that three victims lost their lives, while seven others suffered injuries and were promptly transported to the State Hospital in Ijaye for medical treatment. The deceased were placed in the hospital's mortuary.

Odunsi attributed the cause of the accident to speed violation and loss of control by the drivers involved. He emphasized that no items were recovered from the scene, highlighting the severity of the impact. In response, Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them to maintain safe speeds and ensure their vehicles are in optimal mechanical condition to prevent such tragedies.

Separate Incidents in Lagos State

In a related development, a male hawker was killed in a road crash in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos. The accident involved a Lexus jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY. Officers from the Ketu Division responded to the scene and conveyed the body to the Badagry Mortuary for further procedures.

Additionally, another collision occurred inward of the Ogudu toll gate in Lagos, involving a Mazda commercial bus (MUS 231 YA) and a Lexus jeep (FKJ 23 HL). This incident resulted in seven passengers sustaining injuries, who were rescued at the scene by emergency responders.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) managed traffic flow at the Ogudu toll gate crash site, while operatives from the Ogudu Police Division and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent care.
