In a powerful display of faith and resilience, members of Christ Apostolic Church, CAC Oke Isegun in Eruku, Kwara state have returned to worship just days after a devastating terrorist attack that claimed two lives and resulted in the abduction of thirty-eight congregants.
Sunday Service Under Heavy Security
The church held its Sunday service on November 23 with a visible armed presence securing the premises. A video captured by local radio station SobiFM101.9 showed armed officers positioned at strategic points around the church compound as worshippers arrived and departed from the emotional service.
The service took place exactly one week after the November 18 attack that shook the Eruku community. According to earlier reports, the assailants are now demanding an astonishing N100 million ransom for each of the 38 kidnapped church members, placing immense pressure on families and the community.
Mixed Reactions to Security Presence
The video of the church service with armed protection has sparked diverse reactions across social media platforms. While many Christians praised the worshippers for their courage in returning to their place of worship, others questioned the timing of the security deployment.
One social media user, Umar Shehu Abdulquadry, described the security measures as "medicine after death," highlighting the frustration many feel about the delayed response. However, other commentators like Ifeoluwa Daniel commended the media coverage, stating "Weldone to sobi Fm, we are so grateful for this."
Pastor's Message of Hope and Resilience
During the service, the pastor delivered an inspiring sermon focused on eternal life and standing firm in faith. "I'm going to prepare a place for you and I will come back so that you can join me where I am... He has promised us eternal life, let us not fear death," the pastor told the congregation.
He continued with a powerful message of perseverance: "Wherever/whenever death comes, do not deny Jesus. If you do not deny Jesus, His promise is for you. The Prince of Peace is taking you to the kingdom of peace..."
The church's decision to resume services despite the recent tragedy demonstrates the unwavering spirit of the congregation. As worshipper Ola Adekunle simply put it: "The church of God is marching on." The community continues to pray for the safe return of the kidnapped members while maintaining their religious practices under increased security measures.
