Senator Ali Ndume has expressed deep concern over renewed Boko Haram terrorist attacks in his Borno South constituency that resulted in the killing of four farmers and the destruction of a church and other properties.
Multiple Communities Targeted in Coordinated Attacks
The violent incidents occurred across several communities in Borno State over the past week. Four farmers were killed while harvesting crops in Kwam village near the Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area. The attack on agricultural workers highlights the continuing threat to food security and livelihoods in the region.
In a separate incident in Pemi community, Chibok Local Government Area, terrorists set fire to the EYN Church, several shops, and multiple vehicles. The destruction of religious and commercial properties represents a significant blow to community infrastructure and morale.
Women and Children Abducted in Wednesday Attack
The violence escalated on Wednesday, November 12, when Boko Haram militants invaded Shikarkir community in Chibok. During this attack, seven people were abducted, including a woman with her children, a pastor's two daughters, and the wife of Mr. Smith Shikarkir with her baby.
Senator Ndume described the situation as "worrisome" and pointed to security gaps in remote communities. "I am very much perturbed over the renewed attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in some parts of my constituency in the last week," the senator stated.
Calls for Immediate Military Reinforcement
The lawmaker attributed the increasing attacks to the inability of security agencies to effectively man remote communities in his constituency. "This has led to the increase in attacks without confrontation," Ndume emphasized during his assessment of the security situation.
Ndume has called on the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Waidi Shaibu, to urgently deploy additional troops to safeguard lives and properties in the affected communities. The senator stressed the need for immediate military intervention to protect citizens facing perpetual Boko Haram attacks in the state.
While condemning the violence, Senator Ndume commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his swift response in directing the State Emergency Agency (SEMA) and other stakeholders to provide relief materials to the affected communities. The senator also extended his condolences to the people of the affected communities, particularly the direct victims of these brutal attacks.
