Boko Haram terrorists launched a devastating midnight assault on Magumeri community in Borno State, setting fire to numerous houses and vehicles in a fresh wave of violence.
Community Under Siege
The attack occurred late Sunday night as insurgents emerged from Sasawa Forest in neighboring Yobe State. The community, situated along the strategic 85km Maiduguri-Gubio Road, suffered significant damage to property and infrastructure.
Military sources confirmed that troops of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), successfully prevented any loss of lives during the coordinated attack. The swift response forced the terrorists to retreat with gunshot wounds back toward the forest.
Destroyed Security Assets
Among the casualties of the attack were Civilian JTF patrol vehicles that had been distributed just two weeks earlier by Governor Babagana Zulum. These vehicles were part of ongoing efforts to bolster local security measures against terrorist activities.
The timing of the assault coincided with Governor Zulum's declaration of Sunday and Monday as days for prayers and fasting across the state, reflecting the growing concern over persistent insecurity in the region.
Volunteers Complement Military Efforts
Military officials highlighted the crucial role played by volunteer youths from the Civilian JTF and other security volunteers in supporting counter-terrorism operations. These local forces have been instrumental in complementing military efforts in challenging terrains including Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
Despite the destruction of property, the successful prevention of casualties represents a significant achievement for security forces operating in the conflict-affected northeast region of Nigeria.
