Police Breakthrough in Benue Community Attack Investigation
Operatives from the Benue State Police Command have achieved a significant breakthrough in their investigation of the brutal assault on Anwule community in Ohimini Local Government Area. The security forces have apprehended three key suspects directly linked to the violent incident that claimed multiple lives, including that of a pastor.
Suspects and Their Alleged Roles
The arrested individuals include Isah Peter and Moses Peter, both hailing from Agatu Local Government Area, alongside a Fulani herdsman whose identity remains undisclosed. In a disturbing revelation, Isah Peter served as the acting commander of the Eguma community vigilante group, a position of trust that he allegedly betrayed during the operation.
According to police investigations, the 22-year-old vigilante commander misused a community-owned firearm during the assault on Anwule. During interrogation, Isah reportedly confessed to acting under instructions from an individual known as "Pepper," who directed him to supply the weapon used in the attack.
Confession and Broader Criminal Network
The suspect's admission extends beyond the Anwule community incident. Isah Peter has allegedly confessed involvement in multiple violent occurrences that have terrorized travelers along the Otukpo–Oweto road. This highway has gained notoriety as a "dead zone" in recent months, with frequent ambushes by armed gangs comprising rogue vigilante elements and herdsmen.
Police authorities have indicated that additional arrests are expected as they continue to dismantle the network responsible for these attacks. The ongoing operation aims to restore public confidence along the troubled corridor and bring all perpetrators to justice.
The Benue State Police Command remains committed to thorough investigation and has assured the public of their determination to address security challenges in the region effectively.
