Accra 2026: Ashe Disqualified, Chukwuma Shines

One of Nigeria's medal hopes in the ongoing Accra 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships, Favour Ashe, was disqualified for a false start in the men's 100m this evening in Ghana. Ashe ran the full race and won before being issued a disqualification. His disqualification was a blow to Team Nigeria's campaign in the men's 100m.

Women's 100m Heats

In the women's 100m heat, Rosemary Chukwuma made a bright start to her quest to win her first African Athletics Senior Championships title by dominating the women's 100m heats on the opening day of competitions. Chukwuma, one of the few U.S.-based athletes who managed to make the trip to Accra, Ghana, established herself as the woman to beat in the event.

“I feel so excited to be here to compete. For me it is just go out there and execute and have fun. I’m happy all three Nigerian women made it to the semis,” said Chukwuma after the race.
