All roads lead to the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) this weekend for a birthday kitty in honour of Ignatius Aigbokhaode, who is celebrating his 60th anniversary. The Pro/Am invitational tournament, which teed off on Wednesday with Caddies and Eaglets’ tournament and featured professional golfers yesterday, will come to a climax tomorrow.
The four-day tournament will feature over 250 golfers drawn from across Nigeria, uniting professionals and amateurs on the fairways of Benin to honor Ignatius Aigbokhaode, widely known as IG, as he marks his diamond jubilee. The tournament blends top-level competition with camaraderie, turning the course into a festival of skill, sportsmanship, and celebration of Aigbokhaode, past Captain of the club.
Players will contest across multiple categories, with the event designed to reflect IG’s passion for golf and his years of impact within the game and beyond. Speaking on the event, Chairman, Organising Committee, Andrew Momodu, noted that the tournament is a fitting tribute to a man whose friendship, leadership, and love for golf has brought players together for decades.
Yesterday’s event featured invited top professional golfers and others across Nigeria, as well as ladies handicap 0-28, while tomorrow’s (Friday) event will feature men’s handicap 13-28, ladies handicap 29-36, veteran and super veterans.
“Saturday is the grand finale whereby men’s handicap 0-12, ladies hcp 1-18, invited guests and special guests will have their games on the course. Presentation of prizes to winners across all categories is slated for 6pm while entertainment follows after.
“The tournament is featuring golfers from Ogunnu Golf Resort; Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Sapele Athletic Golf Club; UBTH Golf Club, Benin City; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos; Port Harcourt Golf Club; Arsenal Golf Club, Owerri; IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja, and many others.
“We are using the medium to announce that the IG @ 60 birthday at BCGS will be loud and clear.”
