The chief executive officer of Monimichelle Sports Management Company, Ebi Egbe, has announced that the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt is being designed to meet global specifications, enabling it to host elite continental and international sporting events.

World-Class Ambitions

Egbe told The Guardian at the weekend that the complex, once rehabilitation is completed, will catalyse sports development in Nigeria. “When completed, the Yakubu Gowon Stadium will not only serve Nigeria’s sporting needs but will also be capable of hosting international athletes and competitions. Our objective is to deliver a facility that meets global standards and enhances the country’s sports development aspirations,” Egbe said.

The ambitious transformation of the iconic Yakubu Gowon Stadium is gathering momentum, with construction works reaching significant stages as efforts intensify to turn the historic facility into a world-class sporting arena capable of hosting major international competitions.
