The Technical Director and General Coordinator of the 11th Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, Yusuf Alli, has assured participants and stakeholders of adequate security and a conducive environment for the event scheduled for tomorrow in the hilly town of Okpekpe, Edo State.
Arrival of Athletes
Alli stated that athletes from various states and countries began arriving on May 25 ahead of the race. He confirmed that all technical aspects have been finalized, with personnel working around the clock to ensure a successful event. Over 40 elite athletes have already arrived, and the number is expected to exceed 50, given the high level of interest.
Security Measures
“We have significantly improved security around our runners due to the current situation in the country. Our athletes will be closely monitored, and the routes will be properly covered before, during, and after the race,” Alli said.
Medical Preparedness
Alli also highlighted that adequate medical protocols have been implemented. The medical team is led by Dr. Sam Ogbondeminu, the first Nigerian medical doctor to become a World Athletics-certified medical director. “Since the inception of the race, some of the best brains have handled this aspect, and there have been no issues. We trust Dr. Ogbondeminu and his team to deliver excellently on Saturday,” he added.
