A construction, project management, and sports infrastructure development company, Pecksgrey Nigeria Limited, has called for the replication of the recently commissioned sports complex in Lagos across schools nationwide to revitalize the declining state of school sports in Nigeria. The complex, spanning 11.3 hectares, includes 36 schools, a fire service station, a health center, ICT hubs, and a stadium featuring 19 mini football pitches. This infrastructure goes beyond physical development, opening doors to opportunities for thousands of young Nigerians.
Project Details and Execution
Commissioned recently by President Bola Tinubu, the Tolu School Complex comprises 36 schools handled by about six contractors, including Pecksgrey Nigeria Limited. The firm was responsible for constructing nine schools, which include football pitches, seating arenas, changing rooms, and a tartan track. According to the Group Project Manager at Pecksgrey Nigeria Limited, Timilehin Awujoola, out of the nine schools, two were new constructions and four were renovated, one of which is a four-winged school with 48 classrooms, 12 classrooms per wing. Notably, two new constructions required pile foundations, meticulously planned and executed by the firm's engineers.
Project Timeline and Quality Assurance
The project, initiated in December 2023 and completed in late 2025, underwent thorough soil investigations and site inspections to ensure durability and quality. Pecksgrey Nigeria Limited emphasized the importance of facilities like the football pitch, seating arena, and running track to cater to students' sporting needs. Unique features include top-notch infrastructure, drainage systems, and security measures to create a safe and conducive environment for sports activities.
Call for Replication and Maintenance
Pecksgrey Nigeria Limited supports the replication of such facilities to other parts of Lagos, citing the need to provide quality education and safe learning environments for the growing population. The firm also offers after-service maintenance as part of its contract to ensure the longevity and efficiency of its projects. By investing in sports infrastructure, the company believes Nigeria can revive its school sports fortunes and nurture future talents.
