SportyTV has entered into a three-year agreement to broadcast National Basketball Association (NBA) games on a free-to-air basis across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, with the deal running through 2028.
Free Access to NBA Action
The partnership ensures that basketball fans in these four African nations can watch NBA games without any subscription fees. The coverage begins this Thursday with Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons. For the remainder of the current season, SportyTV will broadcast eight playoff and Finals games, including matchups from the NBA Finals.
Starting from the next season and continuing until September 2028, SportyTV will provide a comprehensive NBA broadcast package. This includes weekly NBA Saturday games, NBA Christmas Day matchups, NBA All-Star Weekend programming, select Play-In Tournament games, and extensive NBA Playoffs coverage, culminating in the NBA Finals.
Bridging the Accessibility Gap
Elias Gallego, Vice President of Media, Marketing, and Business Development at Sporty Group, emphasized the significance of the deal: "There's a difference between content being available and it being accessible. This deal closes that gap with NBA games, across mobile, smart TVs, and digital platforms, built around how people actually watch today."
Fans will be able to follow many of the league's biggest stars, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokić, Victor Wembanyama, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Additionally, players with strong connections to Africa, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid, will feature prominently.
Additional Content
Beyond live games, SportyTV will air daily highlights programming, classic NBA content, and historic matchups featuring iconic names like Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Dikembe Mutombo. This partnership further strengthens SportyTV's basketball coverage, adding the NBA to its existing Euroleague offering.
