Three Nigerian sprinters have advanced to the semi-finals of the men's 400m at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships (ASAC) taking place in Accra, Ghana. Emmanuel Ojeli, Adewale Sikiru, and Samson Nathaniel all secured their spots following impressive performances in their respective heats on the opening day of competition at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

Qualifying Times

The trio clocked competitive times to progress: Emmanuel Ojeli ran 45.64 seconds, Adewale Sikiru posted 46.25 seconds, and Samson Nathaniel recorded 46.67 seconds. Their efforts ensure Nigerian representation in the next round.

Semi-Final Schedule

The semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, at 17:50 GMT. The athletes will aim to secure a place in Thursday's final, where medals will be decided.

Other Nigerian Performances

In other events, Emmanuel Audu made his senior debut in the men's shot put final. He delivered a commendable performance, finishing in fifth place. The event was won by South Africa's Aiden Smith, who claimed the first gold medal of the championships with a throw of 20.01 meters.

Nigeria has already found success on the field. Divine Oladipo and Obiageri Amaechi secured silver and bronze respectively in the women's discus throw. Meanwhile, Tobi Amusan cruised to the 100m hurdles final with a time of 12.82 seconds.
