Senegal's ASC Ville de Dakar defeated Nigeria's Maktown Flyers 79-62 in Rabat, Morocco, over the weekend, eliminating the Nigerian team from the Sahara Conference of the ongoing Basketball Africa League (BAL). The victory secured Dakar the final playoff spot in the conference.
Dakar's Comeback and Key Performances
ASC Ville de Dakar completed an impressive turnaround from an 0-2 start to finish the conference with a 3-2 record. Samba Fall led the charge with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Lamine Badji contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. Mouhamed Camara added 12 points and nine rebounds. For Maktown Flyers, JC Butler Jr. scored 16 points, and Peter Olisemeka recorded 12 points and nine rebounds, but the team ended its campaign at 1-4.
Al Ahly Edges FUS Rabat in Double Overtime
In the second game, Egypt's Al Ahly defeated Morocco's FUS Rabat 77-71 in double overtime, marking only the second double-overtime game in BAL history. Zack Lofton and Malek Abdelgawad led Al Ahly with 17 points each, with Abdelgawad also grabbing 18 rebounds. Key contributions from the bench proved crucial. FUS Rabat's Anthony Pritchard scored 14 points, but turnovers in overtime cost the team the win.
Conference Standings and Playoff Qualification
These results confirmed that Club Africain, Al Ahly, ASC Ville de Dakar, and FUS Rabat will represent the Sahara Conference in the 2026 BAL Playoffs in Kigali. Nearly 35,000 fans attended BAL games in Morocco during the conference. The 2026 NBA Playoffs are scheduled to tip off on May 22.
