Chelsea Secure Lacroix in £52m Deal
Chelsea have completed the signing of France international defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace in a deal worth £52 million. The 26-year-old centre-back has committed to the Blues until 2032, becoming the club's third acquisition of the summer transfer window under new manager Xabi Alonso.

Lacroix expressed his eagerness to contribute to Chelsea's success. "We want to win. When you see the quality of the players here, everything we have around the club, it's something that we can achieve. The ambition is to lift trophies, and I can't wait to contribute," he added.
The Frenchman becomes Chelsea's third summer signing following Morgan Rogers and Marco Palestra, as the club looks to rebound from a disappointing 10th-place Premier League finish last season.
International and Club Pedigree
Lacroix earned a place in France's squad for the 2026 World Cup, making three appearances including a start against England in the third-place play-off defeat. He joined Crystal Palace from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in August 2024 and made 98 appearances in two seasons for the Eagles, establishing himself as a reliable defender.
Alonso's Squad Overhaul
New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso is keen to add experience to his squad ahead of the new campaign. The club is close to securing 35-year-old striker Danny Welbeck on a two-year deal from Brighton, with the transfer expected to be completed imminently.
Lacroix's arrival bolsters a defensive unit that struggled last season, and his partnership with other new signings is anticipated to bring stability as Chelsea aim to challenge for top honours once again.
