Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has confirmed that construction work on the new Umuahia Stadium will commence shortly, emphasizing that the project will evolve into a full-fledged stadium city. The governor made this announcement while hosting a delegation led by Super Eagles star and Abia State-born international footballer, Samuel Chukwueze, at his office yesterday.
Land Acquisition and Feasibility Stage
Otti revealed that the land for the stadium has already been secured and that the project is currently in the feasibility stage. He expressed a desire for Abia residents to invest in the state. “I am confident that before the end of the year, we will flag off the construction of the new Umuahia stadium. The land is already acquired, and we are at the feasibility stage. We are not just building a stadium; we are building a stadium city, like a sports village. There will be hotels, estates, and other attractions to develop that area. The commissioner for Youths and Sports Development will provide further details. We would like our people to come and invest here. Pick whatever interests you, and we will give priority to our people,” Otti stated.
Chukwueze’s Visit and Appreciation
Chukwueze was in Umuahia to thank the governor for his support during the burial of his mother over the weekend. He commended Otti for the visible transformation across the state, describing it as evidence of purposeful leadership. The footballer noted that he has closely followed the governor’s achievements and is impressed by the numerous infrastructural projects being executed across Abia.

Chukwueze described the plan for the new stadium as a laudable investment for the future of sports development in the state.
