Fans of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) have renewed calls for the inclusion of home-based players in the Super Eagles, urging head coach Eric Chelle to consider striker Qamar Adegoke for the upcoming Unity Cup in London.
Adegoke, 21, has been one of the standout performers in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) this season. Over 29 matches, he has averaged 0.68 goals per 90 minutes, making him the most clinical striker in the league. His disciplined play is highlighted by just one yellow card, while his market value of €491,000 ranks him as the NPFL's most valuable domestic asset.
Fans Advocate for Adegoke
Mutiu Ijadunola, a leader of the 3SC fan base, told the media that Adegoke's consistent displays warrant a chance to understudy Victor Osimhen. “London is the perfect shop window for his talents. He isn't just a prospect; he is a specialist right-footed 'Number 9' hitting his peak at the ideal time,” Ijadunola said.
He added that it would be unfair for Chelle to overlook Adegoke when players of lesser quality are selected for the national team. The Unity Cup serves as a crucial preparatory tournament for the Super Eagles.
Adegoke's Rising Profile
Adegoke's predatory instincts and stamina make him suitable for high-pressing systems required at the international level. His performances have ignited discussions about the need to integrate more NPFL talents into the Super Eagles setup.
