FIFA Agent Drew Uyi Lauds Warri Stadium's Renovation and Security Measures
FIFA-licensed football agent Drew Uyi has expressed high praise for the ongoing renovation and remodelling of the Warri City Stadium, describing the project as a transformative initiative by the Delta State Government that will significantly enhance Nigeria's standing on the global football stage. The London-based agent, visiting Warri at the invitation of Delta State Sports Commission Chairman Onos Oborevwori, conducted an extensive inspection tour of the upgraded facility, accompanied by project manager Engr. Femi James and journalists.
Comprehensive Inspection of Key Stadium Features
During the tour, Uyi meticulously examined various aspects of the stadium, from the access roads to the main bowl. Key areas inspected included the newly cultivated lush green pitch, which was planted approximately four weeks ago by experts from Morocco, ensuring optimal playing conditions. Additionally, he reviewed the players' dressing rooms, VIP lounge, mixed zone, expanded press area, control room, waiting areas, training pitch, and an indoor sports hall currently under construction.
Engr. Femi James provided insights into the project's timeline, noting that the remodelling began 11 months ago with an initial completion target set for year-end. However, due to the accelerated pace of work, he anticipates completion by mid-year. James emphasized that the construction quality adheres strictly to required procedures and standards, positioning Warri Stadium among the best FIFA-rated stadiums in Nigeria.
Robust Security and Government Support Highlighted
James further detailed the extensive security network integrated into the stadium, featuring cameras capable of monitoring activities up to 10 kilometres away, with provisions for expansion to 20 kilometres. He credited the Delta State Government and the Sports Commission for providing adequate funding and a conducive environment, ensuring seamless project execution. "The conditions here are favourable, and we are on track to deliver the project smoothly and on schedule," James stated, also acknowledging the support of the host community.
Uyi's Assessment of FIFA Standards and Infrastructure
In his remarks, Drew Uyi commended the project as well-executed, highlighting that the infrastructure, drainage systems, spectator facilities, security framework, playing surface, and media facilities all meet FIFA standards. "This is an impressive work in progress. The Delta State Government's commitment to positioning Warri Stadium for global visibility is deliberate and aligns with a forward-thinking vision," Uyi said.
He provided a detailed assessment, confirming that the pitch is in excellent playing condition with top international standards for surface quality and drainage. Uyi also praised the well-maintained spectator areas, team facilities, and operational systems, noting that the security architecture and crowd control measures adhere to best practices, ensuring safety for players, officials, and fans.
Confidence in Stadium's Readiness for Major Events
Following the inspection, the delegation expressed strong confidence in the stadium's readiness to host top-tier matches and major sporting events. Uyi, who is also an international brand expert, underscored that this successful inspection reflects a shared commitment to maintaining world-class sports infrastructure and promoting football development in the region. "The collaborative efforts of the Delta State Sports Commission and the project team continue to position Warri Stadium as a key hub for football development and sporting excellence in Nigeria," he added.
