Ex-Man Utd Star Hannibal Mejbri Charged by FA for Alleged Spitting Incident
Hannibal Mejbri Charged by FA Over Spitting Allegation

Former Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been formally charged with misconduct by the Football Association following allegations that he spat in the direction of Leeds United supporters during a recent Premier League encounter.

The Incident at Turf Moor

The alleged spitting incident occurred during Burnley's 2-0 victory over Leeds United at Turf Moor on October 18. According to reports, the controversial moment happened around the 67th minute while the 22-year-old Tunisian international was warming up as a substitute.

Mejbri eventually entered the match in the 83rd minute and received a yellow card during added time. The Clarets secured a comfortable 2-0 win in the Premier League fixture, but the post-match focus has shifted to the alleged misconduct.

Police Investigation and FA Response

Lancashire Police confirmed they are investigating the matter after receiving a formal complaint from a Leeds United supporter in the away section of the stadium. In their statement, authorities indicated they are "currently working with Burnley Football Club to establish the facts" surrounding the alleged incident.

The Football Association released an official statement detailing the charge: "It is alleged the player acted in breach of the laws of the game and/or in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or indecent behaviour by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters."

The young midfielder has been given until Friday, November 28 to provide his formal response to the allegations.

History with Leeds Supporters

This is not the first time Mejbri has found himself in controversy involving Leeds United fans. During the previous season, the player appeared to taunt Leeds supporters when he was substituted during Burnley's 1-0 Championship victory at Elland Road.

On that occasion, Mejbri raised his arms triumphantly as he made his way behind the goal toward the dugouts, further fueling the rivalry between the player and the Leeds fanbase.

The former Manchester United academy product, who came through the ranks at Old Trafford before joining Burnley, now faces a potentially significant suspension if found guilty of the misconduct charge.
