IBPLC Unveils Four Brands for 2026 FIFA World Cup

International Breweries Plc (IBPLC), a subsidiary of AB InBev, the world's largest brewer, has officially announced its brand lineup for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The company will leverage four of its leading brands—Budweiser, Trophy Lager, Hero Lager, and Flying Fish—to engage Nigerian football fans during the tournament, which will be held across Canada, Mexico, and the United States and will feature 48 teams.

Brand Activation and FIFA Authorization

Budweiser, the Official Beer Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup since 1986, will lead the activation. All four brands have received FIFA authorization to use the official FIFA trademark, making IBPLC the only Nigerian brewer with such a comprehensive mandate. The initiative aims to bring Nigerians closer to the excitement of the World Cup through consumer promotions, immersive viewing experiences, and rewarding engagements.

Strategic Impact Beyond the Tournament

Nick Kade, Managing Director of International Breweries PLC, emphasized that the mandate goes beyond activation. It is a platform to shape how Nigeria's beer industry is perceived and governed long after the tournament ends. Kade stated, "We are elated and honored that we are the Nigerian brewer that holds a mandate this comprehensive, and we are determined to honor it—not just through fan experiences and promotions, but through lasting impact for the bars, communities, and people that make Nigeria's football culture what it is." He added that the sponsorship reinforces the uniqueness of beer in being local, neutral, and inclusive in bringing people together for a future with more cheers.

Brand Roles and Consumer Engagement

Throughout the tournament, consumers can participate in promotions to win prizes and enjoy match-viewing experiences at selected bars and fan locations across Nigeria. Each brand will play a unique role:

  • Budweiser will bring fans closer to the global spectacle as the official beer sponsor.
  • Trophy Lager will rally football-loving fans through engaging initiatives and promotions.
  • Hero Lager will champion community pride and football passion with experiences that unite fans.
  • Flying Fish will add a vibrant and refreshing twist to match-day occasions, creating fun social moments.

Marketing Director's Perspective

Bamise Oyegbami, Marketing Director of International Breweries PLC, described the World Cup as more than a football tournament—it is a global celebration. She expressed excitement about giving Nigerians more reasons to celebrate with the four brands and creating experiences that reward consumers and ignite fan passion.

Trade Partner Support

Yvonne Onyejiaka, Route to Market and Trade Marketing Director, highlighted the role of trade partners and retailers in delivering the experience. She noted that the company is equipping them with tools, training, and support to make every venue a destination for World Cup fans. "When our trade partners win, Nigerian consumers win, and that is exactly what this activation is designed to deliver," she said.

Responsible Consumption Commitment

All events will feature no- and low-alcohol options alongside responsible beverage service training for servers, consistent with IBPLC's commitment to responsible consumption. Consumers are encouraged to follow the official social media pages of the four brands for updates on promotions, viewing party schedules, and prize announcements.
