The 2026 Nigeria Polo Association (NPA) Ibadan International Tournament received a significant boost in glamour as prominent personalities, including Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, and the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, attended the seventh day of the competition at the Ibadan Polo Club, Eleyele, Oyo State.
120 Years of Polo in Ibadan
The tournament, which marks 120 years of polo activities in Ibadan, attracted players, enthusiasts, business leaders, and dignitaries from different parts of the country. Saturday's fixtures delivered thrilling moments for spectators as Ibadan DFL/WDP defeated Ibadan Lead City/Premium Trust Team 2.5 in one of the day's matches.
Exciting Matches
In another closely contested game, BAH Oil and Gas Kano edged Red Crown Polo Jos 5-4.5 in a pulsating encounter that kept supporters on edge until the final chukka. The presence of Igboho and traditional rulers added colour to the event as guests interacted with players, club officials, and supporters at the polo ground.
Promoting Tourism and Sportsmanship
The yearly competition, regarded as one of Nigeria's oldest polo tournaments, has continued to serve as a meeting point for sports enthusiasts and influential personalities, while also promoting tourism and social activities in Oyo State. Organisers reiterated their commitment to preserving the rich heritage of polo in Ibadan and promoting sportsmanship among participating teams.
