Alex Iwobi Explains Viral Super Eagles Hotel Video in Morocco
Iwobi Clarifies Viral Super Eagles Hotel Video

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has stepped forward to provide context for a viral video that emerged from the Nigerian national team's hotel in Rabat, Morocco, sparking widespread discussions among Nigerian football fans.

The Viral Video That Started It All

Earlier this week, Alex Iwobi shared a social media post showing the view outside his room at the team's accommodation in Morocco. The video depicted what appeared to be an older North African building, immediately triggering reactions from Nigerians who questioned the Nigeria Football Federation's choice of accommodation for the national team.

The timing was particularly sensitive as the Super Eagles are preparing for a crucial World Cup playoff semi-final against the Panthers of Gabon on November 13, 2025. According to the NFF, Iwobi was among the nine early arrivals at the camp that opened in Rabat, joining teammates including William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Wilfred Ndidi, and Samuel Chukwueze.

Iwobi's Clarification and Perspective

In a follow-up video, the Fulham midfielder clarified that his initial post was misinterpreted. "You see, in life, it's all about perspective. Because I snapped at the view I have and people are thinking these guys are ungrateful," Iwobi explained.

He emphasized that he never complained about the accommodation, stating: "Brother, I never said one thing. I just did one look like this, never said a word. Because, you see, in life, some people don't even have yards; some of them don't have beds." The player concluded by noting he was comfortable and focusing on his upcoming match, even mentioning he was playing Mario Kart to relax.

The Reality of Super Eagles' Accommodation

Contrary to the initial concerns raised by social media reactions, Nigerian journalist OJB Sports shared evidence showing that the team is actually staying at the luxurious Rive Hotel in Rabat. The facility was specifically chosen for its proximity to both training facilities and the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium where the crucial match will take place.

Despite Iwobi's clarification, many Nigerian fans continue to express skepticism and have redirected their criticism toward the NFF, which has faced recent allegations of financial misappropriation. With 89 international caps to his name, Iwobi is positioned to make his 90th appearance for Nigeria in the upcoming match against Gabon.

The team management remains focused on the task ahead, with head coach Eric Chelle and captain William Troost-Ekong scheduled to address the media ahead of the important playoff encounter. Meanwhile, star striker Victor Osimhen was spotted rushing from Turkey to join the squad after completing club duties with Galatasaray.
