Jeff Bezos in Talks to Buy Stake in Liverpool FC

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has held preliminary discussions about acquiring a minority stake in Premier League club Liverpool, according to Sky Sports. The talks involve a consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.

Consortium Approaches Bezos

The investment group, which includes former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Bhatia, has approached Bezos to join their bid. Initial conversations have taken place, but Bezos has not yet made a decision on whether to add a share of the Anfield club to his £192 billion fortune.

Bhatia's consortium has hired advisers to negotiate a deal with Liverpool's current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), for a minority stake. FSG previously sold a four per cent stake to US private equity firm Dynasty Equity for £164 million in 2023.

FSG Open to Investment

FSG, which also owns the Boston Red Sox, has been open to selling minority stakes in Liverpool to raise capital. The club is valued at over £4 billion, and any deal would likely be for a small percentage of ownership.

Bezos, with a net worth of approximately £192 billion, is one of the world's wealthiest individuals. His interest in Liverpool comes amid growing investment in Premier League clubs by American and Middle Eastern billionaires.
