Manchester City have officially completed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, the club confirmed on Thursday. The 23-year-old midfielder joins on a five-year contract running until 2031, with the transfer fee set at £116 million ($154 million).
Record-Breaking Transfer Fee
The deal, initially agreed in June, was a record for a British player at the time. However, it has since been surpassed by Morgan Rogers' £117 million ($156 million) move from Aston Villa to Chelsea. Anderson's arrival marks City's second major signing of the summer window, following the acquisition of a defender earlier in July.
Anderson expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League champions. "It's a club built to win trophies and compete at the very top of the game," he said. "That's exciting for any footballer. I am so happy to have been given this opportunity, and I am determined to repay the faith City have shown in me."
Negotiations and Medical
Manchester City concluded their negotiations with Nottingham Forest during the World Cup in Qatar. Anderson underwent his medical at England's training base in Kansas City, where the England squad was preparing for a friendly. The midfielder was also a target for Manchester United, but he stated that choosing City was an easy decision once he learned of their interest.
"City are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the squad they have is amazing and so strong in every position," Anderson added. "As soon as I knew they wanted me, I was absolutely determined to make this move happen. I think they're winners, they're relentless, and that's the sort of team I want to be a part of. Champions and people who win trophies. Over the last 10, 12 years, they've dominated, so that's why I wanted to join."
Impact on City's Squad
Anderson's arrival bolsters an already formidable midfield that includes Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, and Phil Foden. The 23-year-old is expected to provide depth and competition for places, particularly in the attacking midfield roles. He made 87 appearances for Nottingham Forest, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists since his debut in 2021.
City manager Pep Guardiola welcomed the signing, noting Anderson's versatility and energy. "Elliot is a young player with great potential. He can play in several positions in midfield and attack. We are happy to have him here," Guardiola said in a club statement.

Anderson is expected to make his debut for City in the upcoming Community Shield match against Arsenal on August 2.
