Former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo has died at the age of 40 after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna. The incident occurred at the Angwan Yelwa pitch in the Television area of the city.
Match Incident
Eneramo was brought on as a substitute in the second half of the match when he suddenly slumped to the ground without any contact from other players. Witnesses reported that he fell on his own and died instantly.
"He slumped and died right on the spot. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful," a source told SCORENigeria. "He was pronounced dead at the hospital."
Football Career
Eneramo played for several clubs during his career, including Besiktas of Turkey, Tunisian champions Esperance, and Lobi Stars of Makurdi. In 2008, he considered accepting Tunisian citizenship to become eligible to play for the Tunisian national team.
He was eventually called up to the Nigeria national team in 2009 and made his debut on 11 February 2009. In his second appearance for the Super Eagles, Eneramo scored the opening goal against the Republic of Ireland.
The news of his sudden death has shocked the Nigerian football community, with tributes pouring in from fans and former teammates.
