The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially confirmed the appointments of Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as the new head coaches for the Flying Eagles (U-20) and the Golden Eaglets (U-17), respectively. This decision marks a significant shift in the leadership of Nigeria's youth developmental teams, aiming to revitalize performance in international competitions.
Abdu Maikaba Takes Charge of Flying Eagles
Abdu Maikaba, a seasoned tactician in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), brings extensive experience to the Flying Eagles. Having managed top-tier clubs such as Enyimba FC, Wikki Tourists, Kano Pillars, and Plateau United, Maikaba is perhaps best known for leading Akwa United FC to a Federation Cup title in 2017. His international experience includes a prior stint as an assistant coach for the Flying Eagles under Paul Aigbogun and a previous term coaching the Golden Eaglets. Maikaba's appointment is expected to bring stability and a wealth of domestic knowledge to the U-20 setup.
Eboboritse Uwejamomere to Lead Golden Eaglets
Eboboritse Uwejamomere takes the helm of the five-time world champion Golden Eaglets. Uwejamomere is a modern, data-driven coach who has spent several years serving as a coach-analyst for the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons. Currently the head of the academy at Sporting Lagos FC, he also possesses significant international coaching pedigree, having worked within the youth development systems of English clubs such as Millwall, Gillingham, and Nottingham Forest. His analytical approach is expected to enhance the technical development of Nigeria's young talents.
Strategic Move by NFF
The appointments are seen as a strategic move by the NFF to blend veteran domestic experience with modern technical analysis. By pairing Maikaba's proven track record in the NPFL with Uwejamomere's data-driven methodology, the federation aims to improve Nigeria's performances in youth competitions. Both coaches will be tasked with building competitive squads for upcoming African and global tournaments, with an emphasis on player development and tactical innovation.
