A past video of Nigerian cleric Pastor Dolapo Lawal has resurfaced online after Arsenal Football Club clinched the 2025/2026 Premier League title. The clip, which went viral following Tuesday night's matches, shows the pastor telling his congregation that the club is cursed and cannot win the league.
Pastor's Viral Claim
In the old footage, Pastor Dolapo Lawal declared: "Arsenal is cursed. Even if they have a 29-point lead, they cannot win the Premier League title." He also joked that women should avoid relationships with Arsenal supporters, calling it a bad sign.
However, after Arsenal mathematically secured the championship on May 19, 2026, ending a 22-year drought since their "Invincibles" season, many Nigerians took to social media to criticize the cleric.
Social Media Reactions
On X, user @the_Lawrenz wrote: "Please, where can I find this pastor. I just want to have a discussion with him." Another user, @chibuzo_obinalo, said: "There are things that ought not to be said on the altar. This version of Christianity where you crack jokes on the altar is wrong. God is no jokes."
@Vintage146 commented: "E be like say na this pastor call God oh no be God call am oh." @abayomiusamot added: "This is why Pastors should stick with the message of Christ."
Arsenal's Title Victory
The title was sealed after second-placed Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth, making Arsenal's lead insurmountable. The win ended a historic 22-year wait for the Premier League trophy.
Pastor Dolapo Lawal has not yet responded to the backlash, but the video continues to circulate widely online.
