NSC DG: Eric Chelle's Contract Extension Agreed, Documentation Pending

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed that Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has agreed to a contract extension, though formal documentation has yet to be completed. NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade provided the update amid reports linking Chelle to the Algerian Football Federation.

Contract Agreed but Not Yet Signed

Olopade stated that the delay is purely procedural, not a sign of negotiation breakdown. “Before contracts are signed on paper, you must have done a great deal of work to solidify all ends,” he told Punch. “It's a renewed contract, which means it's an existing one. We have agreed, so I am sure that the Nigeria Football Federation will conclude the documentation as soon as possible.”

Algerian Links Dismissed

Reports from Foot Mercato claimed that the Federation of Algerian Football is interested in Chelle as a replacement for Vladimir Petkovic after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, Olopade dismissed these rumours, saying, “Eric is a gentleman, so all the stories about other countries looking for him do not hold water. I've sat with him, and I know he is not bothered by all those rumours.”
