Stanley Nwabali Opens Up About Career Future Following Chippa United Exit

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has publicly addressed his next career steps after his surprising departure from South African Premier Soccer League club Chippa United. The Nigerian international's exit was announced on Thursday, February 5, 2026, marking the end of a four-year association that began in 2022.

Mutual Agreement Ends Four-Year Stint

Chippa United shocked the football community by revealing that they had mutually parted ways with the Nigerian star goalkeeper. During his tenure with the Eastern Cape club, Nwabali established himself as a key player, making 76 appearances and maintaining 25 clean sheets. His performances not only solidified his position as Nigeria's first-choice goalkeeper but also earned him recognition as one of Africa's premier shot-stoppers.

The announcement came as a surprise to many observers, particularly since Nwabali had lost his starting position to Dumisani Msibi prior to representing Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Despite this, he played a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles secure a third-place finish in the continental tournament.

Nwabali Denies Acrimonious Departure and Transfer Rumors

In an interview with SABC Metro FM, Nwabali firmly dismissed speculation that his departure was contentious or that he had pre-arranged another club. "I'm going to be very honest with you, there is no contract in front nor is there a club. I'm not guaranteeing you that I'll have a new club today or tomorrow," he stated, as reported by SABC Sport.

The goalkeeper emphasized that the decision was reached amicably between both parties. "It's a very understanding request from both parties, it's something that is going to be nice for both parties, no hard feelings or anything," Nwabali explained. He further elaborated that the timing felt appropriate for everyone involved to pursue new opportunities.

Media Speculation and Potential Suitors

Despite Nwabali's claims of having no current offers, media reports have linked several clubs with interest in the 28-year-old goalkeeper. Tanzanian side Simba SC reportedly attempted to secure his signature but abandoned their pursuit due to Chippa United's excessive financial demands during negotiations.

South African publication SuperSport has identified Kaizer Chiefs as another potential destination. The PSL club is said to be monitoring Nwabali's situation closely and might consider making a move for the experienced goalkeeper now that he's available as a free agent.

Heartfelt Farewell to Chippa United

Following the official announcement, Nwabali expressed deep gratitude toward his former club. In a heartfelt message, he described Chippa United as "more than a family" and extended appreciation to the club management, passionate fans, teammates, and all staff members he collaborated with during his four-year stay.

"It's an agreement that both parties will feel like [at peace], we wish each other well and I can look forward in my career. I've been at this club for four years. It's really nice working here, but we all really need to move forward as a player or as a manager," Nwabali reflected, acknowledging the natural progression of football careers while maintaining positive relationships with his former employers.
