In a significant revelation for Nigerian football fans, former Super Eagles captain and legend Sunday Oliseh has confirmed that Spanish giants Real Madrid hold a genuine interest in signing star striker Victor Osimhen.
Oliseh's Podcast Confirmation
Speaking on the Global Football Insight Podcast, Oliseh disclosed that there is substantial underground talk about Osimhen being a prime candidate for Los Blancos. He confirmed the interest is real, though he chose not to reveal the source of his information, stating it came from a "top personality."
This revelation comes amid a reported contract standoff between Real Madrid and their Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr. Oliseh suggested that the potential acquisition of Osimhen would give the club flexibility, allowing them to move Kylian Mbappe back to his preferred left-wing position while the Nigerian occupies the central number nine role.
Osimhen's Journey to Galatasaray
Victor Osimhen's path has been eventful since his Serie A triumph with Napoli in the 2022/23 season. Despite expectations of a move that summer, he signed a new contract with the Italian club, which later complicated his departure.
Napoli blocked a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia in 2024, and a potential transfer to Chelsea also fell through. He eventually joined Turkish side Galatasaray on loan, a move that became permanent in the summer of 2025 after an initial temporary deal.
His stock has risen dramatically in Turkey, where he has continued to score goals at an elite level. His performances, particularly in the UEFA Champions League where he has netted six goals in just three matches this season, have reminded top European clubs of the talent they previously overlooked.
The Financial Hurdle for Real Madrid
While the interest is confirmed, any potential deal will come at a steep price. Reports indicate that Galatasaray will demand a fee in excess of €100 million for the striker they signed for €75 million less than a year ago.
Furthermore, Osimhen's wages are expected to cost Real Madrid more than €20 million per year. It is believed the Spanish club is preparing a bid of around €100 million to test Galatasaray's resolve at the end of the current season, though the Turkish champions are likely to hold out for a higher figure.
If the transfer materializes, it would represent a monumental step in Osimhen's career, placing him at the heart of one of the world's most prestigious football clubs and fulfilling the potential he has shown since his breakout season in Italy.
