Phil Foden Agrees New Four-Year Deal at Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has reached an agreement in principle to sign a new four-year contract with the club, securing his future at the Etihad Stadium until 2030. The deal also includes an option to extend by a further year.

Long-Term Commitment

Foden, who is approaching the final year of his existing contract, has decided to commit his long-term future to his boyhood club. The 25-year-old England international has been with City since he was a child and has developed into one of the team's key players.

Career Achievements

Since making his senior debut at the age of 17 in 2017, Foden has amassed an impressive trophy collection. He has won six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, and five Carabao Cups. His contributions have been vital to City's domestic and European success.

In the current season, Foden has scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. However, his form has dipped compared to his career-best season in 2023/24, when he was named Premier League Player of the Season and PFA Players' Player of the Year.

Recent Form and Challenges

Over the past two seasons, Foden's goal and assist contributions have declined, and he has lost his place as a regular starter under manager Pep Guardiola. His last goal for City came in December. England manager Thomas Tuchel has also expressed concerns about Foden's form, particularly after a disappointing international break.

Tuchel commented on Foden's recent performances: "He tried everything. I would say he was excellent in camp but, yeah, he struggles to show it on the pitch. Obviously, he didn't have a lot of minutes for City recently, then he came to camp with the brightest smile and was so good in training. And I thought he will just surprise us and will play with the same verve and excitement but, yeah, he struggles to have the full impact."

Despite these challenges, Foden remains a highly valued asset for both club and country, and his new contract signals City's confidence in his ability to return to top form.
