Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has stated that Nigeria's upcoming friendly against Portugal will be a challenging encounter for the team. Moffi made this comment after finding the net in Nigeria's recent 2-2 draw against Poland, a match where the Super Eagles came close to securing a victory before conceding a late equalizer.
Moffi's Performance Against Poland
The forward, who also scored in Nigeria's 3-0 win over Jamaica in the Unity Cup final, opened the scoring against Poland in the 23rd minute. He connected with a pass from Moses Simon to put the Super Eagles ahead. Nigeria dominated large spells of the game but failed to maintain their lead, as Poland equalized before halftime through Nicola Zalewski after a defensive lapse from a corner kick.
Onuachu's Penalty and Late Drama
Paul Onuachu restored Nigeria's lead from the penalty spot following a handball incident in the box. However, the Super Eagles were denied victory when Przemyslaw Wisniewski struck a long-range equalizer deep into stoppage time.
Moffi's Warning About Portugal
Speaking after the match in a chat with Brila FM, Moffi expressed satisfaction with his performance and the team's overall display but cautioned that the next opponent would be significantly stronger. “We had a good game against Poland and I am happy I scored,” he said. “However, I think Portugal will be a difficult test for the Super Eagles.”
Upcoming Friendly and Preparation
Nigeria will face World Cup-bound Portugal in their next international friendly on June 10. Although the Super Eagles will not feature at the 2026 World Cup, the team is using these friendly matches to test tactics and integrate new players ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
