Young football talents from across Nigeria showcased their prowess at the maiden edition of the Mobil Naija Cup finals, held in Lagos over the weekend. The tournament, sponsored by Mobil Nigeria, is part of a broader initiative to invest in youth development through grassroots sports, as well as to nurture emerging talents. The final match took place at the Inspire Sports Arena, located at the Old NITEL Stadium in Oshodi, Lagos. It featured Inspire Sports Academy competing against a Mobil Selected Team, which was composed of standout players discovered across regional qualifiers throughout the country.
Inspire Sports Academy emerged as the winner of the tournament with a decisive 4-0 victory, clinching a cash prize of N5 million. Individual accolades were presented for categories such as Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper, designed to recognise excellence and motivate participants. This structured recognition aims to encourage young athletes to strive for higher achievements in their football careers.
Grassroots Development and Scouting Platform
Omobolanle Oshoba, the Managing Partner of Dare to Dream Sports Management Limited and the Project Manager and Consultant for the tournament, explained that the initiative was driven by the need to bridge the gap in grassroots football development. He emphasized providing a platform for undiscovered talents to shine. Oshoba noted that while the competition was structured as a tournament, it also doubled as a scouting platform where exceptional players, including those from non-winning teams, were identified and given opportunities to progress to the finals.
Oshoba further elaborated that the Mobil Selected team was created to ensure that talented players who may not have advanced with their original teams still had a chance to showcase their abilities on a bigger stage. This approach ensures that no promising talent is overlooked, fostering a more inclusive environment for youth football development in Nigeria.

Oladapo stated that Mobil Nigeria's partnership with Inspire Sports Academy was intentional, aimed at ensuring long-term impact.
