Segilola Resources Successfully Concludes Fifth Annual Football Tournament in Osun State
Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL) has triumphantly concluded the fifth edition of its annual football tournament in Osun State, bringing together host communities in a vibrant celebration of grassroots sports, unity, and youth development. This competition serves as a key component of SROL's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, demonstrating the company's commitment to fostering community engagement and talent nurturing.
Tournament Structure and Prize Distribution
The three-day tournament commenced on Thursday, March 26th, and culminated in thrilling finals and a community-centered closing ceremony held at the Iperindo Community Field on Saturday, March 28th. This year's competition featured both male and female teams competing for substantial prizes totaling ₦2,600,000.
Team prizes were distributed as follows:
- Winning male and female teams each received ₦500,000
- Second-place teams took home ₦400,000 each
- Third-place teams received ₦250,000 each
In addition to team awards, individual excellence was celebrated through several special categories. The HSE Awards, designed to promote safety and discipline both on and off the field, were presented to outstanding players in both categories, with each recipient receiving ₦50,000. The highest goal scorers and Best Coach/Manager in both male and female categories were also recognized with ₦50,000 each.
Team Composition and Tournament Highlights
Each participating team comprised SROL staff members alongside residents from the host communities. The male category featured four competitive teams: Adrian FC, Sola FC, Segun FC, and Collins FC. Meanwhile, the female category showcased Aderinokun FC, Chris FC, Alf FC, and Adeoye FC.
SROL CEO, Mr. Segun Lawson, officially inaugurated the tournament with an impressive display of ball skills and a ceremonial kick that established the energetic tone for the entire event. Lawson emphasized that the tournament represents one of the many ways SROL continues to strengthen relationships with host communities and foster meaningful integration.
Through a series of thrilling matches featuring exciting penalty shootouts, fierce goals, and intense moments of anticipation, the tournament progressed to highly competitive finals. In the male category, Collins FC faced Adrian FC, while the female category saw Adeoye FC competing against Alf FC.
Tournament Results and Community Impact
Collins FC emerged victorious in the male category, scoring 4 goals against their opponents' 2 goals. Meanwhile, Adeoye FC claimed victory in the female category with a decisive 5-3 win over their competitors.
Owoeye Sikemi, captain of the winning female team (Team Adeoye), expressed profound joy at their achievement, stating, "This competition gave women and men in the community an opportunity to not just compete for prizes but to display our talent and shine, and for that I am deeply grateful to Segilola Resources."
Adeshola Temitope, captain of the winning male team (Team Collins), echoed similar sentiments, remarking, "This competition is an investment in the youth, our talent, and ultimately our futures. We appreciate SROL for creating a platform that brings our community together and allows talents like ours to be seen."
