The Super Eagles of Nigeria have learned their group stage opponents for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the draw in Cairo on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, for the tournament that will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Nigeria's Group L Opponents
Nigeria has been placed in Group L alongside Madagascar, Tanzania, and Guinea Bissau. The Super Eagles will aim to secure qualification and potentially win their first AFCON title since 2013, having finished in the top three in the last two editions, including a silver medal in the 2023 tournament in Cote d'Ivoire and a bronze in the 2025 edition in Morocco.
AFCON 2027 Hosts and Format
The 2027 AFCON will be the first to be hosted by three countries, as East African nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda prepare to stage the continental showpiece. The qualifiers will determine which teams join the hosts in the final tournament.
The Super Eagles, led by their technical crew, will begin preparations for the qualifiers, with the first matches expected later this year. Nigeria's football federation has expressed confidence in the team's ability to navigate the group and reach the finals.
