Turkish Pundit Criticizes Victor Osimhen After Galatasaray's 4-1 Defeat
Turkish Pundit Blames Osimhen for Galatasaray Loss

Turkish football commentator Sinan Engin has publicly criticized Victor Osimhen following Galatasaray's heavy 4-1 loss to Samsunspor in the Turkish Super League. The defeat, which occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2026, delayed Galatasaray's chance to secure their fourth consecutive league title.

Galatasaray started the match brightly, taking an early lead in the ninth minute when Osimhen provided an assist to Yunus Akgun for the opening goal. However, the match turned against the champions as Samsunspor took control. While leading 2-1, Galatasaray goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc received a red card for a foul outside the box, a situation partly caused by Osimhen's misplaced back pass to the goalkeeper. Samsunspor capitalized on the numerical advantage and scored two more goals to seal a comprehensive victory.

Sinan Engin's Criticism of Osimhen

Sinan Engin, a known admirer of Osimhen who often praises his performances, took a different stance this time. He expressed disappointment with the striker's behavior and decision-making during the match.

“Osimhen is not bigger than Galatasaray. He played brilliantly during his loan spell. I admired him. But now he's arguing with the referee and his teammates,” Engin said on the program Beyaz Futbol. “He's playing incredibly carelessly. How can he pass to the centre-back? What kind of complacency is that, my friend?”

Engin also criticized Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk for the team's defensive setup, which he described as woeful and a contributing factor to the heavy loss. “Today, the Galatasaray team may have played with the wrong defensive setup; they may have left themselves exposed,” he added.

Buruk's Defense and Osimhen's Missed Chances

Okan Buruk addressed the defeat, pointing to missed opportunities by Osimhen and Baris Alper Yilmaz when the score was 1-1. He also defended Guvenc's red card, calling it an unfortunate incident. “There were chances that Baris and Osimhen couldn't convert. Then it became 2-1. Our opponents took advantage of all the chances that came their way,” Buruk told GS TV.

“Gunay's red card was unfortunate. When the opponent's foot hit Gunay's hand, his hand opened. Gunay didn't immediately open his hand. The opponent's foot hit Gunay's elbow, and when the ball opened, Gunay's hand went to the ball. It was an unfortunate situation. I don't know how it will be evaluated.”

Despite the humiliating loss, Galatasaray remains in control of the title race. They can wrap up the championship by defeating Antalyaspor at home in their next match.

Osimhen's Reaction and Promise to Fans

Following the defeat, Victor Osimhen apologized to the fans for the team's performance and made a bold promise. He assured supporters that Galatasaray would bounce back and beat Antalyaspor to secure the Turkish Super Lig title.

Osimhen's commitment to the club remains strong, and he is determined to help the team finish the season on a high note despite the setback.
