Turkish football commentator Zeki Onder Ozen has called on Galatasaray to pursue Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as the ideal attacking partner for Victor Osimhen. Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on an initial loan in the summer of 2024 before making the move permanent in 2025, has established himself as one of Europe's top strikers.
Osimhen's Impact at Galatasaray
Victor Osimhen has been instrumental in Galatasaray's recent dominance, leading the club to the brink of a fourth consecutive Turkish Super League title. He also helped the Lions reach the Champions League Round of 16. Despite domestic success, Galatasaray aims to improve their European performances, having already signed stars like Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane in previous seasons.
Zeki Onder's Recommendation
Former Turkish international Zeki Onder Ozen believes Fernandes would perfectly complement Osimhen's style of play. “With Osimhen there in attack, I can't think of anything to say to Fernandes. He's world-class, one of the best in the world,” Ozen told VOLE. “This would also help Galatasaray in their hunt for success in the UEFA Champions League.”
Ozen acknowledged that signing Fernandes, who remains under contract with Manchester United, would be difficult but stressed the potential benefits. “In the league too, he'll cause lots of trouble for everyone. It would deter other rivals from competing for the league title. His addition would make Osimhen want to stay. Imagine these players competing in top form and without any injuries. However, their chances of approaching him are very slim.”
Potential Partnership
A combination of Osimhen and Fernandes would create a formidable attacking duo. Osimhen excels at converting chances created by teammates, an area where Fernandes thrives. The Portuguese midfielder is on course to break the Premier League assist record of 20 in a season, currently held by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne. Osimhen's ability to hold up play and finish with both feet and his head would mesh well with Fernandes's creativity and vision.
Recent Setback
Galatasaray recently suffered a 4-1 loss to Samsunspor, delaying their title celebrations. The defeat prompted criticism from pundit Sinan Engin, who berated Osimhen for his performance. The Lions now need a win against Antalyaspor to secure their fourth consecutive league title.
