Tony Unuavworho has been declared the winner of the highly anticipated third edition of the AfricaRe golf tournament for CEOs. The thrilling competition concluded at the prestigious golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 over the weekend, drawing significant attention from the business and sports communities.

A Competitive Victory with Narrow Margins

To secure his championship title, Unuavworho delivered an impressive performance, shooting 38 stableford points. This score placed him just two points ahead of his closest competitor, Ancy Okoebor, who finished with 36 points. Obinna Okwoji also scored 36 stableford points, earning him the third-place position in a tightly contested field.

In his post-victory remarks, an elated Unuavworho expressed gratitude to the tournament organizers for their exceptional efforts. He acknowledged that while skill was crucial, luck also played a significant role in his success. "I want to use this opportunity to thank Africa Reinsurance, the sponsor of this tournament. The tournament held special significance as it coincided with the 50th anniversary celebrations of Africa Reinsurance Corporation. Temitope Akinowa, the Regional Director for Anglophone West Africa at Africa Reinsurance Corporation, emphasized the corporation's ongoing commitment to supporting golf and contributing to the Nigerian economy.

"We are very happy with this third edition because it coincides with our 50th anniversary celebrations. We've been around for 50 years, we've been very strong, and we've been supporting the economy of Africa despite the challenges. We are happy we can hold this third edition, and we are happy with the turnout," Akinowa remarked, underscoring the event's dual purpose of sport and corporate legacy.

Recognizing Other Outstanding Performers

The 18-hole competition featured several other notable winners across various categories:

  • In the Ladies stableford category, Olaide Adekoya, Yetunde Ojo, and Ifeoma Obata emerged victorious.
  • Segun Adekoya claimed the Longest Drive on Hole-9 for men.
  • Annie Eimiakhene won the Ladies Longest Drive on Hole 9.
  • Ademola Osindero secured the Nearest to the Pin on Hole 11 prize.
  • Yetunde Ojo also picked up the prize stake in the Ladies category.

In the team competitions, Davisther Brokers Ltd triumphed in the Insurance Team category with 65 stableford points, while Joken Insurance Brokers followed closely with 64 points, securing second place. The event not only showcased individual talent but also fostered camaraderie and networking among industry leaders.
