Queensberry chief Frank Warren has issued a stark warning about the potential cancellation of the all-British heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. According to reports from sportbible.com, the fight, which was finally agreed upon earlier this week, could be scrapped if Joshua fails to win his upcoming bout.
Joshua's Next Fight Could Decide Fury Bout
Before potentially facing Fury, Joshua is scheduled to fight little-known Albanian Kristian Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Warren emphasized that a loss for Joshua would completely derail the highly anticipated clash. "If he loses to this guy, it kills the fight," Warren told BBC Sport.
Fury May Stay Active
Warren also suggested that Fury might take another fight before the blockbuster event, as he wants to remain active. "Tyson wants to keep busy. That's the mentality he has. When he's in the gym, he goes to the gym for his mental well-being, as well as physically. He needs focus, a date for when he's going to fight, and at the moment we don't have that date," Warren added.
Potential Usyk Rematch
If Fury defeats Joshua, Warren hinted that Fury may seek to avenge his previous losses to Oleksandr Usyk with a third showdown. "Tyson has made it very plain he'd like to fight Usyk again, so maybe that could be an option," Warren said. Usyk remains the only man to have beaten Fury in his professional career and has also handed Joshua two of his four career defeats.
