Wolves were forced to cancel their training session on Monday, July 21, after Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare refused to leave the pitch. The following day, the Championship side deployed extra security to ensure the 25-year-old did not return to the club's training ground, according to Mirror UK.
Incident Occurs Early in New Manager's Tenure
The incident took place just weeks into César Peixoto's reign as manager. The Portuguese coach was brought in to replace Rob Edwards, who was sacked after Wolves were relegated from the Premier League by finishing rock bottom of the table.
Arokodare's Poor Form and Transfer Links
Arokodare, who scored only six goals in 38 games across all competitions, was part of the squad responsible for Wolves' dismal season. He has been linked with a move away from Molineux. The striker has been linked with Serie A side Fiorentina and Turkish club Trabzonspor this month, as the club seeks to offload him. The player is said to favour a move to Italy this summer.
High Transfer Fee, Minimal Return
Wolves signed Arokodare for around £24 million last summer, but after he scored just three Premier League goals in 33 appearances, he is expected to depart. The club does not see him in their plans for next season.
