Codar, a leading technology training platform, has announced a $1.5 million investment to accelerate Africa's artificial intelligence talent pipeline. The initiative aims to train 10,000 developers across the continent by 2028, addressing the growing demand for AI expertise in various sectors.
Investment Details and Objectives
The investment will fund comprehensive AI and machine learning programs, including online courses, bootcamps, and mentorship opportunities. According to Codar CEO Adebayo Ogunlesi, the goal is to equip African developers with cutting-edge skills to compete globally. 'Africa has immense potential, but we need to bridge the skills gap to unlock it,' Ogunlesi stated.
Impact on Africa's Tech Ecosystem
The initiative is expected to create a ripple effect, fostering innovation and job creation. By 2028, Codar projects that trained developers will contribute to over 200 tech startups and generate $50 million in economic value. The program targets key industries such as healthcare, finance, and agriculture, where AI can drive significant improvements.
Partnerships and Curriculum
Codar has partnered with international tech firms and local universities to design a curriculum that meets industry standards. The training covers Python, TensorFlow, natural language processing, and computer vision. Participants will also receive certification recognized by global employers.
Challenges and Opportunities
Despite the investment, challenges remain, including limited internet access and high data costs in some regions. Codar plans to address this by offering offline learning materials and partnering with local internet providers. The company also aims to prioritize female and rural candidates to promote inclusivity.
According to a recent report by the African Development Bank, the continent needs 4.5 million tech professionals by 2030. Codar's investment is a step toward meeting that demand, positioning Africa as a hub for AI innovation.
